Systems Xcellence to Strengthen the Board of Directors With the Addition of Four New
Members
MILTON, Ontario (August 19, 1999) -- Gordon S. Glenn, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Systems Xcellence Inc. (TSE: SXC), today announced that subject to shareholder
approval at this year's Annual General Meeting, Systems Xcellence proposes to expand and strengthen the
Board of Directors with the appointment of four new members. In addition to the proposed appointments,
both Mr. John Connolly and Mr. Don West will be retiring their current positions on the Board of
Directors.The four individuals each bring to SX extensive and varied
experience in the healthcare information technology industry. Their knowledge and
understanding of this niche will be instrumental in the management and direction of the
Company into the next millennium.
The new members are as follows:
Mr. Gordon Glenn, currently President & CEO of Systems Xcellence Inc., now joins the
Board of Directors. Mr. Glenn has been with the Company since June of 1998, and brings to
SX over 27 years of experience in the software products, systems integration and
processing industries. Prior joining SX, Mr. Glenn served as President and CEO of Computer
Data Systems Inc. (CDSI), where he was instrumental in growing their revenues from $66
million to more that $250 million. Under his leadership, CDSI was named one of the
"200 Best managed Small Companies in the U.S." by Forbes magazine. CDSI was
subsequently acquired by Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. of Dallas, Texas in a deal
valued at $373 million, or 32.4 times net earnings.
Mr. Terrence Burke is Managing Director of Chinook Wind Development, which serves as a
consultant to emerging healthcare companies and strategic advisor to healthcare
organizations. Mr. Burke has had a long and distinguished career in the healthcare
industry having held executive positions with a number of leading managed care companies
including Senior Executive Vice President of Metrahealth Corporation; Senior Vice
President of Planning and Development, Aetna Corporation; and Senior Vice President
National Operations, Cigna Corporation. In addition to the above mentioned positions, Mr.
Burke has also served on the Boards of several healthcare industry associations, as well
as holding directorships with six healthcare-related technology companies such as Planet
Rx and Wang Health Information Systems. Mr. Burke brings to Systems Xcellence a wealth of
experience and contacts in the North American managed care industry.
Mr. Kevin Brown has been an independent consultant since 1998. Prior to becoming a
consultant, Mr. Brown was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Payor Solutions
Group of HBO & Co. which acquired AMISYS Managed Care Systems Inc.
("AMISYS"), a managed care software business, in 1997. Prior to this
acquisition, Mr. Brown was the founder, President, CEO, and Chairman of AMISYS, a managed
care software business that he grew from U.S. $1 million to U.S. $60 million in revenues.
Mr. Browns career has consisted of various senior positions within managed care
software providers including Vice President of Compucare Inc. and Manager of Membership
and Billing of Harvard Community Health Plan. Mr. Brown has over 20 years of experience
within the managed care software industry mainly in product development, sales and
customer support. He brings a unique and valuable perspective on the management of a
successful high growth oriented software development company in the U.S. healthcare
sector. As a successful entrepreneur, Mr. Brown created significant shareholder value for
the investors at AMISYS. His entrepreneurial insights and comprehensive understanding of
the healthcare information technology market will be extremely valuable to the Company as
it continues to develop markets for its products in the U.S. healthcare sector.
Mr. Robert Breckon is currently employed by MDS Inc., a Canadian health and life
sciences company with revenues of approximately $1 billion. As Corporate Vice President of
New Technologies, Mr. Breckon chairs a group of senior executives with the mandate of
ensuring that MDS remains on the forefront of emerging technology representing significant
growth opportunities for the business. He was previously Vice President and General
Manager of MDS AutoLab, a division of MDS Inc. Mr. Breckon brings to SX a great deal of
experience applying people, process and technology in innovative ways to create business
opportunities, having held previous positions as a partner in the technology consulting
practice of Ernst & Young and Director of Business Systems for a global automotive
parts manufacturer. Mr. Breckon holds a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto.
