Systems Xcellence Appoints Chief Financial Officer

MILTON, Ontario (February 28, 2001) -- Systems Xcellence Inc. (TSE: SXC) announced today that it has appointed Irwin P. Studen, 40, as Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Studen has over 11 years experience as a Chief Financial Officer and Operations Executive in both private and public start-up companies. Industries in which he has held senior level positions include enterprise and data management software, biotechnology, e-commerce incubation and telecommunications.

In his new position, Mr. Studen will play a key role with the SX management team in helping to identify, develop and implement potential strategic alliances, joint ventures and acquisitions; with a special emphasis on the structuring and financing of these arrangements. He will also be responsible for all financial and administrative functions of the Company.

Prior to joining Systems Xcellence, Mr. Studen was President of a start-up business-to-business e-payment infrastructure company he co-founded through technology incubator, C1 Venture Partners. Before joining C1, he was VP & CFO at MarketSwitch Corporation, a privately held enterprise software company, where he completed a US$20M equity offering and US$3M credit facility. Earlier he held the position of VP & CFO at MonoGen, Inc., a biotech company, where he completed private equity and bank financings and led a reverse merger process with a Vancouver Stock Exchange listed company. Prior thereto, Mr. Studen was CFO of Realty Information Group (currently, CoStar Group (NASDAQ: CSGP)) where he was instrumental in completing acquisitions that positioned the company for its successful initial public offering. Mr. Studen also held senior financial and operational positions with Snyder Communications (formerly NYSE: SNC) in Washington, DC.

Mr. Studen holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and both a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from the Columbia School of Engineering & Applied Science.
